- : connect up the pentium direct to the 486 instead of going via the

-
- The reason for putting the Amstrad as the 'server' is because when you
- run interserver the machine is locked out and can not be used. I figured
- is was better to not be able to use an LCD laptop rather than a 486 pc.
- Also I'm not sure what the loading would be on a pc of running the
- software extras so, to acheive easy laptop removal try this
-
- A500
- PC2AM
- |
- | Amstrad+Interserver
- | -serial |
- | |
- | Serial | -Parallel
- | |
- PC2AM | |
- 486+PCSerial----------PCSerial+Pentium+Interlink
-
- This way the pentium takes the extra load of running the system and comms
- and the amstrad is removable easily. The drives would be something like
- this:-
-
- A500 drives 486 Drives Pentium Amstrad
-
- DF0: a a
- Net:a/ c c Ignored
- Net:c/ d=A500 DF0: d=486 a as you
- Net:e/ e=Pentium a e=486 c cannot
- Net:f/ f=Pentium c f=A500 df0: use local
- Net:g/ g=Amstrad a g=amstrad a drives
- Net:h/ h=Amstrad c h=amstrad c
-
- Don't forget this scheme is a theory only and relies on the fact that
- there is such a thing as pc sernet equivalent. Also there may be software
- considerations that can not be taken into account here. You should cross
- reference this on a pc newsgroup. At least there is no large financial
- layout required to try this.
-
- I thought it was worth noting that the 'outdated?' A500 was the only
- machine that could recognise the drives as something understandable such
- as pentiumc: all the pc ones become a nightmare.
